My name is Emily Brady and I’m a senior at the University of Central Florida. I intend to graduate on May 3, 2o14 with a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations and a minor in Writing and Rhetoric. During my time at UCF I have taken many different courses both in my field of study as well as electives in Psychology. Currently I’m enrolled in Advertising Campaigns, Literacy and Technology, and Crisis Communications. I have had three internships over the past year in Advertising, with a focus on social media. They were with Ren Scott Creative Marketing in Tampa, FL, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Orlando Area and (currently) Evok Advertising Agency in Orlando, FL. My full resume can be found on the Contact page, and you can see features of my work in Writing and Advertising on the corresponding tabs.
Starting at a young age I was interested in technology and the internet. I adopted new social media platforms before their popularity skyrocketed. I believe my general curiosity is what lead me on my path to social media advertising. Working with social media is never static. Each platform has rules and design guidelines that much be followed. Also, a different voice is needed to write across each platform. Character limits can either make or break a creative tweeter. Four years ago I would have laughed if someone told me I’d be sitting in front of a computer on social media all day. Now, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my time after I graduate. I enjoy the challenge of writing across the social media platforms, and also writing for various clients who all have very different audiences and stakeholders.
When I first enrolled at UCF, I was majoring in English and wanted to pursue editing/publishing. After my first year I decided I wanted to go in a different direction and sought out a new major that still involved my passion for writing. I found my perfect match with Advertising and Public Relations. It was then only a hop, skip and a jump until I found myself immersed in the world of social media advertising. In my spare time I work at Rack Room Shoes and film short videos for my YouTube channel.
